About the Job
Hexmodal is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to add implementation and code-review capacity to its application team. The role focuses on feature development across its Django/Vue platform, which supports more than 3,000 healthcare facilities through an IoT device fleet.
This is an empowered individual-contributor role. Developers are expected to work independently, move quickly, make sound technical decisions, and take ownership of parts of the codebase. Within the first few months, the successful candidate will take ownership of one or more application modules and become the go-to expert for their design, quality and evolution.
The role also dedicates approximately 30% of the time to code reviews and reports to the Application Lead.
Responsibilities:
Ship features end-to-end with high velocity and quality — scope, design, build, release and iterate using customer feedback.
Take ownership of one or more application modules.
Spend approximately 30% of the time on code reviews, providing fast and constructive feedback.
Own production bugs and issues through the on-call/bug-triage rotation.
Improve application performance and maintainability through targeted refactoring and query optimization.
Solve difficult technical problems such as application scaling, large refactors and performance bottlenecks.
Learn new domains and tools independently.
Maintain and improve the health of the codebase.
Requirements
6+ years of professional software development experience.
3+ years in a fast-moving startup or high-velocity environment.
Strong backend development experience with Python.
Django experience strongly preferred, or comparable framework experience.
Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, query optimization, indexing and performance tuning.
Experience solving complex technical problems.
Highly independent with strong technical decision-making skills.
Strong code-review skills.
Comfortable with operational ownership, debugging production issues and taking fixes through resolution.
Proficient with AI coding tools as part of an efficient development workflow.
Bonus Points
Front-end experience with Vue.js.
Experience with IoT devices and LoRaWAN.
Production experience with AWS and containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience building compliance-related software.
Work Schedule
On-site in New York City, 5 days per week.
